Dr Patrick Amenechi holds a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry from University of Ibadan, a Master of Science degree in the same discipline from Imperial College, London and a Ph.D, also in the same discipline, from Manchester University. He had a distinguished career in public service from 1957 and was appointed the Federal Government Chemist in 1968. In 1978 he was appointed General Manager, NNPC Refinery, Warri. In 1985, he was appointed Sector Co-coordinator, Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited and retired from public service in 1988. He served as Chairman, Unipetrol Nigeria Plc from 1988 to 1997 and is on the Board of several leading companies.
